This March 16, Several hundred Waffen-SS Latvian Legion veterans and those who support them took part in an annual parade in Latvia’s capital, Riga.
The participants of the peaceful parade walked toward central Riga’s Freedom Monument. The commemoration, held annually since 1998, takes place March 16.
The Latvian Legion of the Nazi Germany’s Waffen-SS was created in 1943. The unit surrendered in May 1945 among the other Nazi forces.
Meanwhile, a Czech MP Pavel Kováčik condemns as ‘abhorrent’ any form of Nazi glorification, he believes that the EU must face up to the growing neo-Nazi sentiment and glorification of the regime, which killed millions in its insatiable lust for world dominion.
The call rings particularly relevant in the walkup to the 70th anniversary of the Allied Victory over Nazi Germany.
